True Bodhicitta ~ His Holiness the 16th Gyalwang Karmapa

Then the Gyalwang Karmapa would say:
‘If you don’t know who is Buddha, you can have no devotion.
If you don’t know the sufferings of samsara, you can have no compassion.
To have true devotion, you need to know who is Budda,
To have true compassion, you need to know the sufferings of samsara.
The best way to know the Buddha and the sufferings of samsara is to know yourself.
If you know what is your essence, that is Buddha.
And to know the sufferings of samsara, you just need to know how you suffer right now.
Knowing our potential we know Buddha,
Knowing our present shortcomings, defilements, we know the sufferings of samsara.
Knowing these two there is devotion and compassion.
With devotion and compassion, there comes true Bodhicitta
Which leads to enlightenment’.
